Course Description

This course presents a comprehensive exploration of holiness as the central, transformative theme of the Christian life. Across ten lessons, learners are guided through a theological, biblical, and practical understanding of what it means to live a holy life. Beginning with foundational distinctions between holiness and sanctification, the course emphasizes that holiness is not a human achievement but the result of divine grace. Lessons explore the nature of God’s holiness, its implications for human transformation, and the relational dimensions of holiness with God, others, and self. Through study of Scripture—particularly Romans, Galatians, and Psalms—students discover how holiness redefines identity, reshapes behavior, and prepares believers for service in God’s redemptive mission.

Key themes include the victory of holiness over sin, the relational essence of sanctification, and the importance of holiness as both a daily pursuit and eschatological preparation for Christ’s return. Holiness is presented not as an unreachable ideal but as a practical and Spirit-empowered lifestyle marked by love, justice, humility, and unity. The course culminates with a focus on transformation, showing how holiness begins with renewed minds and leads to communal witness through the Body of Christ. Through reflection, scriptural engagement, and practical application, students are equipped to embrace holiness not as a burden, but as a joyful, ongoing partnership with God—a sacred calling that reflects Christ and empowers believers to live faithfully in a broken world.

Dr. J. Ayodeji Adewuya

I am compelled to teach a course on these subjects because holiness is not just a theological concept—it is the heartbeat of the Christian faith and the lens through which we understand God's nature, human identity, and the redemptive journey. These topics—ranging from defining holiness and sanctification to exploring its relational, ethical, and eschatological dimensions—reflect the breadth and depth of Scripture's call to a transformed life. In a world increasingly shaped by superficial spirituality and moral confusion, I believe it is urgent to recover a robust, Spirit-empowered vision of holiness that is rooted in God's character, revealed in Christ, and expressed through love, repentance, justice, and relational wholeness. Teaching this course is not about information transfer; it is about forming lives that reflect God’s holiness in both personal character and public witness.
